Quella carica che parte… da Baku: così Verstappen a Monza scrive (ancora) la storia

Ammette: “C’è stato un piccolo problema sul finale, ho dovuto alzare il piede“. E ubbidire una volta tanto a Gianpiero Lambiase che alla radio intimava di prendere margine da Gasly, evidentemente perché le temperature stavano salendo e si rischiava una frittata clamorosa.
Non s’è scomposto, come non s’è scomposto sabato quando Sainz gli ha negato la pole position. Perché in effetti, Verstappen da venerdì sapeva che il Gran Premio d’Italia ce l’aveva lui in pugno: “La gara dovrebbe andare meglio, quindi niente di sconvolgente”.
Finisce come Miami, Monte Carlo, Barcellona, Montreal, Spielberg, Silverstone, Budapest, Spa e Zandvoort: praticamente, da quattro mesi vince solo lui. Lo fanno notare a Toto Wolff:
I don’t know whether he cares about the record, it’s not something that would be important for me, any of those numbers. It’s for Wikipedia, nobody reads that anyway.
Ad ogni modo, per chi la legge, la storia adesso passa per Monza, Verstappen è il primo ad aggiudicarsi dieci gare di fila, batte Vettel che ne aveva vinte nove nel 2013:
I never would have believed it was possible, but we had to work for it today and that was definitely a lot more fun.
È una carica che parte da Baku, l’ultima che gli è sfuggita e comunque gli ha dato quelle indicazioni sulle quali costruire un predominio schiacciante. Lo svelava a Zandvoort:
I think I learned a lot, how to do some things with the car, how to set it up. Of course, I didn’t win that race in Baku but actually I really tried a lot of stuff and different tools. It was like ‘okay, that’s quite interesting for the next races’. And I basically implemented that and it has helped me on every track.
Il mondiale è una formalità, 145 punti lo separano da Perez, 194 da Alonso, praticamente la classifica è già scritta e la Red Bull ha l’auto per tutte le piste.
